Morning Run

Hi genies
IMG_4199
Lately I have been pushing myself to get up a little earlier and go for a morning run. Although it’s hard to get out of bed, lace up your shoes and start running, there’s just something about those early summer mornings…and the feeling afterwards is priceless 😉

30 Day Yoga Challenge: Workout Day 15

Hi genies
Today I have decided to do a little yoga workout. Last year I completed the 30 Day Yoga Challenge by Erin Motz and every now and then I like to do one of her videos as a “workout warm-up” 🙂
Today I opted for Day 15:

#PA Update: Month 10

Hi genies
Ok, so it’s time for yet another update! Is it just me or are the days just flying by?? Can’t believe it’s already October and that I only have two more months left in this project 🙁

This month I have really focused on healthy eating. I have tried to avoid dairy and find substitutes such as almond milk, coconut milk, soy yoghurt and things like that. I have further increased my intake of vegetables and fruits, by for example having smoothies and some kind of stir-fry for dinner. My breakfast usually consist of either soy yoghurt topped with almonds, a home-made smoothie or chia seed pudding.

I have also kept on squatting throughout the month, done some interval training here and there and then I’ve been walking and cycling quite a bit. But I’ve already started amping up my fitness game this next month which I’ll update you on in about 31 days from now ;)…and I’ll probably also tell you about the secret “little” project I’ll do next…So get excited!

How have you been doing this month?

#PA Update: Month 9

Hi genies
Alrighty, time for another update!
loveyourself_Fotor
As I mentioned in last month’s post, I wasn’t physically able to work out too much unfortunately, which definitely has set me back. However, I feel like this month I was able to think a little more about my journey, how far I’ve come and where I want to go. I have gained so much motivation through this process and I’m sooo ready to face the remaining three months head on! There’s a new goal that I want to pursuit after I have finished this project so that I will be sure to keep on going…so watch this space 😉

As I wasn’t feeling too well, I also let go a little bit of my healthy eating habits…which I am not proud of at all! But the last few days I have “refound” my excitement and passion for healthy food and nutrition in general and it’s amazing how much better I already feel after a couple of berry smoothies, grapes and avocados! 😉 I have also managed to squeeze in a few squats here and there to maintain my muscles and some long walks just to get moving a little more. So even though I haven’t been super active this month, I feel like mentally I have made a huge improvement and I’m more thrilled than ever to keep on going and give it my all!

#PA Update: Month 7

Hi genies
So here´s another little update for you! 🙂 This month I have been trying out a couple of “new” physical activities such as Bikram yoga which I really enjoyed. I have also been cycling a lot more than I usually do and it´s a fun way to get around quickly and get some exercise at the same time. I´m still running at least once a week, I know I wanted to push myself a little harder and run more often but I haven´t quite come around to that yet…so that´s still on my “to do” list 😉

unknown.

This month I have also completed the 30 Day Abs Challenge and I feel like it has really helped me a lot! Due to the challenges (squats, abs, yoga, plank)I have completed over the course of these past few months, I have been able to strengthen my body and add short workouts into my daily routine. I squat, plank and crunch everyday – even if I just do one set it´s better than nothing!

I have also been good about not over-eating and making healthier choices – I rarely eat dairy products and substitute them with almond milk and soy yoghurt – and try to get as many vitamins as possible by making sure I have some veggies or a fruit with most meals.

#PA Update: Month 6

Hi genies
Wow I can’t believe I’m already halfway through this project! I mean where does time go?? I have definitely learnt a lot over the course of the last year and although I have made some big changes in my life, some of which have really affected how I feel in my body, I know that there is still quite a way to go.
Over the last six months I have been able to keep up my goal of running at least once a week, which I am very happy about. However, I really want to take it up a notch and get better at running rather than just “plateauing” (is that even a word? oh well, now it is 😉 ) Luckily for me, I enjoy running while it’s raining or super windy…but as we are approaching summer, it gets hotter and the sun is out a lot more…which I’m not a fan of when it comes to running…so I either have to start running early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid too much heat and sun.

Something else that I have been doing this past month is yoga. After having completed the 30 Day Yoga Challenge I have really fallen in love with this form of exercise and I’m excited to witness further progress. I never thought that yoga was something for me as I found it quite annoying to keep track of your breath while exercising but now I love the whole “meditation” aspect of it and truly focusing on the pose you’re doing right then and there. I have also heard that when you put your mind into your workout and try to consciously feel the muscles your working out, you get a lot more out of your exercises and achieve better results faster.

Here’s a little demonstration of an upward dog pose…I mean who could do it better?!

As you may have seen in previous posts, I have also completed the 30 Day Squat Challenge and I still continue doing 200 squats daily. I can feel a huuuuge improvement in my thigh- and butt-area which is amazing! Now I have started the 30 Day Abs Challenge which hopefully will give great results as well.

Nutrition-wise I have been trying to eat more healthy meals without over-eating, which is sooo hard when food tastes really good…;) I have also been cutting down on my sugar intake so I only buy a small treat for myself every now and then and eat it right away…because when I know there is something sweet in the fridge or in the cupboard, I will eat it. So rather than beating myself up about it, I just try to work my way around it and find a solution that works for me.

So yeah, I’m pretty excited for the months to come and hope that in the end I’ll get to where I want to be…;)

#PA: Month 5

Hi genies
I can’t believe I’m already almost halfway there! This has been a good journey so far, just taking one month at a time and trying to improve a little bit every time…which – if I’m completely honest – didn’t happen each month…;) but it’s all about consistency and staying on track, which I do think that I have.

tumblr_n1lvpjxoYT1rixukjo1_400_Fotor

During Month 5 I have been focusing more on workouts rather than nutrition and I have both embarked on a 30 Day Plank Challenge, a 30 Day Squat Challenge and a 30 Day Yoga Challenge. This kept me busy everyday and I feel like the muscles in my legs have definitely tightened and become stronger which is amazing!

IMG_1677_Fotor

However, I found that the Squat and the Yoga Challenge were quite manageable whereas the Plank Challenge was super hard!

IMG_1678_Fotor

As you have to do quite a few down dogs and planks during the yoga workouts I found the Plank Challenge increasingly hard so I followed it up until day 21 and then I kind of stopped…and just did 1 minute planks daily. Although the thought of being able to do a 5 minute plank sounded really cool in the beginning, it got too difficult in combination with the other challenges and if I’m honest, it’s really boring to hold a plank for more than 3 minutes…right? I also thought that the steps are too drastic towards the end as the time was increased by 30 seconds every third or second day and I felt like I couldn’t hold a proper plank…so instead of hurting myself by doing it wrong and having a bad form I just cut down on the time and did it my way.
On a brighter note, I also managed to run at least once weekly! So hurrah for that! Now I’m excited for Month 6 where I’ll be sure to improve my diet again and fuel my body with some much needed nutrients!

How have you been doing?

#PA: Month 4

Hi genies
So last month was quite successful in terms of fitness and weight loss! About a week into it, I registered for a 10K which I actually didn’t fully feel ready for but I really wanted to amp up my game. And I did it! About two years ago, I ran a half marathon and after I had accomplished that aim, I kind of let it all slip and I stopped running regularly. But now I wanted to make it part of my life again as I actually enjoy it as long as I don’t feel like I have to, but rather that I want to go running. As part of my little fitness project, I have set myself one rule that I don’t want to break – and that is to run at least once a week and so far I’ve luckily been able to stick to it, which I am proud of. Lately I’ve even been running about 3 times weekly which was nice because you can tell that there is some improvement and progress and it doesn’t feel like such a struggle every time you run a little further than ususal…:)

running-motivational-quote.

In terms of nutrition, I did a little experiment. I went on a “diet” to shed some pounds that didn’t seem to come off. Even though I did lose some weight and a significant amount of inches around my waist, it didn’t feel good to be on a diet. I felt tired and dizzy and constantly hungry as in addition to dieting, I was running a lot more than usual. So now I have stopped being so restrictive because I can just tell that it’s not good for me. I rather want to be healthy and lose weight slowly than to feel miserable and lethargic and end up bingeing on stuff after the diet. Because if I’m honest with you, that’s just what happens. You might shift some weight quite quickly, but as soon as you get to eat normally again and increase your meal portions, most commonly you put a lot of the weight back on…which obvioulsy isn’t part of your plan! So now I just want to use common sense and eat healthy and burn some calories by exercising. It might take longer until you get to where you want to be, but as you change your lifestyle, healthy living becomes a habit and you actually crave and prefer healthier foods to junk food that you otherwise would binge on. So just be patient! You will make it! I believe in us 🙂

Race Day!

Hi genies
a524c2a680bd9ee4_race-day-mistakes_Fotor

Today I ran a 10K with some friends and family and it was so much fun! I love the atmosphere on race day and how cheerful everyone is. The running route went through the centre of the city which was quite exciting as normally it is packed with cars and there’s no way you can run in the middle of the streets 😉

How is your Sunday?
