Run Towards Your Dreams!

The other evening I was out for a little run and it felt really good. There was a little breeze in the late summer air and the sun had just started setting. Those are the moments that I would otherwise miss out on, so sometimes you really do get rewarded just by getting yourself into your running gear and out of the door…and at home I made myself an apple-ginger shot! Love them! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Breakfast Inspiration

When I was younger I never really used to eat breakfast, but now it has become my favourite meal of the day! So if you’re a little stuck in a rut and don’t really know what to eat in the early AM hours, here’s some inspiration for you.

One of the easiest and fastest breakfasts are nutritious breakfast bowls. As a base you can use anything from yoghurt, nana ice cream to an acai bowl and as far as toppings go, you have virtually unlimited options. If you like something a little more substantial, maybe after a morning workout, the breakfast bagel is a good option for you. Again, what you choose to fill your bagel with is entirely up to you. Two varieties I’d recommend are with salmon and cream cheese or avocado and scrambled eggs…Yumm!

And of course, a classic combination that will help fill you up, is any version of eggs and a side of avocado! If this doesn’t motivate you to get out of bed in the morning, I don’t know what will… ๐Ÿ˜‰

For breakfast I had a delicious bowl of berry soy yoghurt with a Pink Lady apple, raisins and coconut chips! Soooo good ๐Ÿ™‚

I had some cherry tomatoes left from the day before and decided to whip up some bruschetta; so I diced onions, garlic and the tomatoes, seasoned it with Italian herbs, olive oil and salt, scooped it all onto some toasted rye bread et voilร !

I got a little hungry in the afternoon, so I had some trail mix, consisting of various nuts and raisins.

For breakfast I had a lovely breakfast bowl filled with goodies such as grapes, almonds, granola, raisins, raspberries and all swirled into a mixture of berry soy yoghurt and plain coconut yoghurt! Delicious and quite pretty if I do say so myself ๐Ÿ˜‰

My lunch consisted of some left-overs from the day before…a mixture of rice and lentils with a side of seasoned veggies. Easy peasy!

In the afternoon I felt a little peckish so I decided to make myself a smoothie: almond milk, frozen raspberries and blackberries, honey and a little bit of peanut butter et voilร !

Dinner was just a big bowl of salad with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing, walnuts and various other seeds and dried fruits ๐Ÿ™‚

I started the day off with a bowl of soy-coconut-yoghurt topped with frozen raspberries, raisins, oats and a drizzle of honey.

For lunch I had one of my all-time favourite combos! Avocado and chili hummus on rye bread, sooooo good ๐Ÿ™‚

In the evening I just had some left-over quinoa/lentil mixture from the day before and whipped up some veggie and tofu stir-fry, that I seasoned with soy sauce and spices, to go with it.

What If You Could Not Fail?

Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what you want to do with your life. Nowadays, there are so many options that we have to navigate our way through.
We are caught between the choices of what is reasonable and sensible – and what is it that we really what, unrealistic as it may seem. Expectations, societal standards, odds – all weigh in on our final decisions, which only makes it harder to see clearly.
Something that can be a good idea to ask yourself when trying to figure out what you want to do and spend your time on, are the following questions:

-What you would attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
-What makes you forget time and space around you by taking you to your “happy place”?
-What seems so big and so terrifying and yet so exciting and amazing that you would try anything to achieve it?

Maybe it’s not one specific thing that comes to your mind, but several things or maybe deep down you know exactly what it is, but you’re afraid of what other people think of it or that you cannot achieve it. Whatever it is, try it out. Talk to someone about it, make a plan, take step by step, don’t give up and don’t let anybody tell you that your dream doesn’t count. Because it does. Dreams are there for a reason.

Back On Track!

So I don’t know if you remember this…but in a post that was published many moons ago, I told you that I have a big fitness event coming up this fall…a half marathon! And even though I’ve known this for quite a while, I haven’t really put in enough effort to become a better runner. But that is a thing of the past! I have come up with a plan that I really hope is going to work out for me.
Last week I stumbled across an interesting article stating that if you have been an inconsistent runner for a little while and have fallen off the band wagon, in order to get back into it again and start seeing some results, it is a good idea to go running for 30 minutes five times a week for a grand total of three weeks. And that’s exactly what I’ve decided to do!
While I struggled a little with my breathing and my legs felt really heavy, I did it and I felt so great afterwards. So that’s going to be my challenge for the next three weeks and then I’ll take it from there. For the time being I don’t measure how far or fast I run, I just focus on hitting 30 minutes on my watch and enjoying myself as much as I can.

And I have to admit, it definitely helped knowing that when I got home after my run, eggs and avocado were waiting for me!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Why Ginger Shots Are Worth The “Burn”

Something I absolutely love doing in the morning is having a shot! No, of course not that kind of shot…but a ginger shot! ๐Ÿ™‚ Ginger is proven to be extremely beneficial to your health, and here are some of the reasons why:

-reduces pain and inflammation
-helps blood circulation
-fights nausea and motion sickness
-strengthens immune system
-prevents colds and flu
-can prevent certain forms of cancer

aaaand the list goes on and on. While I really didn’t like the burn that you can feel in your throat because of the warming sensation of ginger as a child, I’ve really come to appreciate it now, as I know how good it is for me! There are three different ways I like to enjoy my ginger drinks:

1. The easiest way is just to use your juicer. I prefer to use a small knob of the ginger root and then add the juice of one to two apples, depending on how intense you want the “burning” sensation to be. And then all there’s left to do is down it all in one gulp!

2. This method is for those of you who don’t own a juicer, but have a blender. Simply peel the amount of ginger you’re going to use, add your desired quantity of apple juice, blend it all together – and voilร !

3. And if you aren’t into the idea of strong shots at all, you can make some ginger tea. Again, peel your ginger root, slice it and boil it in water. Depending on the prefered intensity, let it simmer until it fits your taste. Let it cool a little and then sip joyfully ๐Ÿ™‚
