Review: Batiste

Hi genies
If you have greasy hair like mine, you know there is one holy grail product to save you in between hair washes: Dry Shampoo. However, I find it quite hard to find one that I really like and therefore I’m always on the hunt for the one and only. So far, I haven’t found it but nevertheless, I have stumbled across some that work quite well, especially regarding their cost point. Without further ado – let me introduce you to Batiste:

There are loads of different scents to choose from and there are even some special formulas like one that promises extra volume or another one that has a little tint so that your hair won’t look greyish after use if you have dark hair. The best way I have found to work with these, is to spray it onto your roots and leave it for a couple of minutes so that it can absorb the oil from your hair. Then gently massage the product into your scalp and brush any further residue out. Sometimes I even like to spray it in my hair, go to bed with it and leave it to do its magic overnight. In the morning you can then wake up with fresh and nice smelling hair.
From the Batiste range I have only used three different kinds from which there is one I would not recommend. Namely the pink bottle in the middle of the picture above. This is the XXL Volume dry shampoo and I find it is very hard to get rid of the grey tint and your hair feels very rough and unmanageable, so it’s really hard to style it later on. On a brighter note I quite like the other two. Both the tropical coconut-y and the floral one do the trick and are easy to brush out and their scent is not too overwhelming. I would really like to try the one with a tint just to see if it blends more easily into my hair. So all in all I would say if you’re looking for a cheap dry shampoo that works well you should definitely give Batiste a try!

Have you tried Batiste before? If so, what did you think of them?

Real Techniques…

Hi genies
When I was in London a few months ago I knew I had one very important mission to complete…namely getting my hands on some Real Techniques brushes by Samantha Chapman (the older one of the pixiwoo sisters). I’d heard so many good things about them and finally wanted to give them a try myself. So I headed down to Boots on a cold November day and left said drugstore with two beautiful new brushes and a smile on my face ๐Ÿ˜‰

I bought the Expert Face Brush (bigger, orange/gold one) and the Setting Brush (smaller pink one) which both are made of synthetic duo fiber bristles. They are very light and really easy to use and enable you to create an amazingly flawless finish. The names of the brushes already tell you what they are designed to be used for and the colours of the brushes are actually part of a system to categorise the purpose of the brushes. The orange/gold ones are used to create a flawless base and the pink brushes leave you with a perfect finish. There is even another colour in the collection, namely purple which are all brushes made to enhance the eyes. I personally like to use my dense Expert Face Brush to buff foundation into the skin and the small Setting Brush for a precise application of either powder or highlighter. If you want to find out more about the brush collections, HERE is a link to the Real Techniques website. I’d definitely recommend these brushes to anyone – from beginner to pro – as they’re easy to use and yet you achieve professional results and make your makeup look flawless without leaving a hole in your wallet.

Have you tried any of the Real Techniques Brushes? If so, what did you think of them?

#PA Update: Month 2

Hi genies
Another month has come around and once again it’s update time! (Click HERE if you don’t know what #PA is…)This past month I’ve been stepping up my workout game and I’ve done more specific exercises to target certain areas such as legs, glutes, abs and arms. I feel like it has already made a little bit of a difference and I can tell that my muscles have started to tighten a tiny bit. I’m obviously nowhere near my goal yet but I’ve made a good few steps in the right direction. I managed to run at least once a week which is one of my aims for the whole duration of my little project. So when I didn’t do my mini workouts (ranging from 10 to 20 min at a time) at home, I either went running or for a long walk with my dog which can be quite tiring too as there are a lot of hills where I live ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you’re into doing short daily workouts from home, HERE is a youtube channel called XHIT Daily that I found quite helpful.

As far as nutrition goes I have introduced a few changes here and there that have worked quite well for me. For instance when I felt like eating something sweet, i.e. dessert, I had some apple sauce flavoured with cinnamon, some tea sweetened with honey, a fruit, some trail mix (nuts and raisins) and I even baked some cookies once made from only almond butter, honey and almond flour (ground almonds). Simple yet good for you. Furthermore, I tried not to eat too many carbs for dinner and increase the amount of veggies I eat for example by substituting rice with cauliflower rice (ground cauliflower, looks just like rice). But every now and then I also had a piece of chocolate or a small portion of pasta and enjoyed it ๐Ÿ˜‰ I don’t want to deprive myself and thereby causing me to give it all up.

So you know what? Now and again it’s absolutely fine to indulge a little. Just don’t fall off the band wagon thereafter and undo all your good work! You WILL see results even if you take a little break but then stick to your plan! And though I’ve only made small gradual changes it all adds up in the end and I have definitely lost some weight on the way. Which is always nice, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰
So yeah, I’ve already got some more changes coming up this next month and I will challenge myself a bit more. I feel motivated now with spring “just” around the corner and the sun peeking out a little more…;)
